All the world’s a stage,
And all the men and women merely players.
They have their exits and their entrances,
And one man in his time plays many parts,
His acts being seven ages. –From As You Like It (II, vii, 139-143)
I’ve seen Shakespeare on stage, on the screen, adapted into novels, musicals, and sitcoms.
Now the great Bard’s works have been adapted manga style!
Romeo and Juliet is set in present day Japan. The Capulets and Montagues are cast as rival yakuza families. Kogal (that’s a society girl) Juliet meets and falls for Rock-star Romeo. The romance and tragedy proceed from there. Nice use of SD art in a comedic scene with the Nurse.
Hamlet is set is some kind of futuristic era. That era is not especially emphasized, except with a strange use of plugs in the head, but the art and overall presentation is good.
Both books use the original dialog.
